singapore and the death penalty

THE Attorney-General's Chambers on Monday accused British freelance journalist Alan Shadrake of launching a broadside and baseless attack against the entire Singapore judiciary in his book on the death penalty.

The AGC, which started contempt proceedings against Shadrake, 75, for impugning the impartiality, integrity and independence of the courts in Singapore.

14 statements alleged or insinuated that the Singapore courts bowed to political or economic pressure from foreign governments, favoured the rich and privileged and was used as a tool by the ruling party to muzzle dissent.
