All eyes were on South America last week, after the Colombian military attacked a rebel camp in Ecuador. Colombia has fought antigovernment rebels for 40 years, but attacking them on Ecuador's soil was a bold move. Leaders of Venezuela and Ecuador called on the international community to condemn Colombia's actions. Both countries sent troops to the Colombian border.
Colombian officials issued an apology, but also claimed that evidence found after the raid connected Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez to the rebels. Chavez denied the charges.
On Wednesday, the Organization of American States held a meeting in Washington, D.C. The group aimed to calm the hostilities.
